On the night of November 22, Building Information Modeling Technicians, a special episode of New All Walks of Life of Across China, was broadcast in CCTV-4 (CCTV INTERNATIONAL). The episode focused on the story of the perfect display of the world's largest sphere building, the Sun Hotel in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, built by China MCC5 building information modeling technicians through intelligent construction BIM technology.

Building information modeling (BIM) is one of the core technologies of intelligent construction. Through the establishment of a three-dimensional building model, it can realize the visual management of the whole process including design, construction, and even operation, and it can detect conflicts and collisions in the workspace in advance, which greatly improves the construction efficiency and the quality of the building.

The Sun Hotel constructed by China MCC5 in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, is a five-star comprehensive hotel integrating accommodation, catering, entertainment, tourism, and other multi-functions, of which Building 1 has a diameter of 98 meters and a height of 98.1 meters, which is the world's largest sphere building, with a total steel consumption of more than 20,000 tons, comparable to that used in the main structure of "Bird's Nest" in Beijing. In addition, its interior is hollow with no core support, making the steel shell extremely complex to stress. The sphere "coat" is 2,258 pieces of unit plate and more than 14,000 pieces of shaped glass composed of the first domestic large spherical anti-drainage unit reflection glass curtainwall system. Its "capillary" is composed of 200,000 meters of electromechanical lines. Therefore, once there is any small error in the production of components, engineering construction, and electromechanical installation, it is necessary to rework, which seriously affects the schedule.

China MCC5 adheres to the innovation-driven development strategy, continuously increases the investment in science and technology research and development, trains many excellent technical talents, such as building information modeling technicians, and efficiently supports the construction of a series of "special, difficult, new, and unusual" projects, such as the main torch tower of the 31st Summer Universiade, and the main venue of the closing ceremony of the Universiade, that is, the Chengdu Open Air Music Park, and so on. For the Sun Hotel project shown in the episode, China MCC5's technical team established a "general doctor file" covering all specialties and the whole construction cycle through the in-depth application of construction information technology, successfully saving more than 20 tons of basement reinforcing steel materials, and reducing the amount of on-site welding of the steel structure by 30% and the on-site fabrication of the electromechanical lines by 50% which ensures the smooth delivery of the project and makes China MCC5 get widespread acclaim from local authorities and fellow builders. Now that the hotel has officially opened, it has become a city landmark, cultural and tourism business brand, and an internet-famous site in Huzhou.

It is known that, Across China is a large-scale special report program on CCTV-4, which focuses on the latest changes in China from a humanistic perspective, observes the new phenomena, fashions, and things around ordinary Chinese people, reflects the state of life, ideology, and spiritual pursuit of contemporary Chinese people, and analyzes the new changes in contemporary China to help viewers at home and abroad to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary China.
